NOTICE OF ADOPTION AND PUBLICATION
ORDINANCE NO. 2026.08/453

TO THE RESIDENTS AND PROPERTY OWNERS OF THE CITY OF BUCHANAN, BERRIEN COUNTY, MICHIGAN, AND ALL OTHER INTERESTED PERSONS:

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that at its regular meeting held on August 10, 2026, the Buchanan City Commission approved Ordinance No. 2026.08/453, amending Chapter 98, Article VI of the City of Buchanan Code regarding bicycles and coaster toys.

The ordinance amends the title of Article VI; revises the penalty provision; rescinds the existing bicycle licensing, transfer, sale-reporting, and reciprocity provisions; updates regulations governing the operation of bicycles and electric bicycles; and adds regulations governing the operation of coaster toys, including skateboards, roller skates, roller blades, and similar motorized or nonmotorized devices. The ordinance also establishes rules concerning operation in specified downtown areas, recreational trails and other public areas, pedestrian right-of-way, lighting, helmets, roadway operation, and civil infractions.

The ordinance will be published on August 20, 2026, and shall take effect fifteen (15) days after publication, on September 4, 2026.

A complete copy of the ordinance is available for inspection at Buchanan City Hall during regular business hours and may be obtained from the City Clerk's Office.
