Sign Regulations and Permit Information

Sign Permit requests are accepted, processed and issued by the Planning and Community Development Department.   The Community Development is responsible for reviewing applications prior to permits being issued. Section 71-30 of the Unified Development Ordinance (zoning ordinance) and zoning map effective December 2025 provides the regulations for all permanent and temporary signage within the City.

In many cases staff is able to administratively approve a Sign Permit.  However, properties located within the D Downtown District are also required to complete the Design Review Application which may require action by the Design Review Committee for approval.

Signs that will be illuminated are required to also obtain an Electrical Permit

The Planning and Community Development Director is responsible for reviewing and approving sign permit applications.  Each individual sign requires a permit application to be completed.  Inspections are completed by the Building Official.
