Planning Commission

The Planning Commission is authorized by the Michigan Planning Enabling Act - Act 33 of 2008 and Chapter 70 Planning in the Code of Ordinances.  The Commission has six members appointed by the City Commission and one City Commissioner.  Appointments typically start in July and are for three-years with members appointed annually.  The Planning Commission is responsible for the development and approval of the Master Plan.  In addition, they conduct public hearings associated with map amendments (rezoning) and text amendments (changes to language in the Unified Development Code (zoning ordinance) before making recommendations to the City Commission.  The Planning Commission also conducts public hearings associated with special use permits which they can approve or deny.
