Friends of Oakridge Cemetery

Wrought iron archway on stone foundation that says Oakridge Cemetary

Friends of Oak Ridge Cemetery was formed in 2003 with the primary objective of cleaning and repairing grave stones and monuments in the old part of the cemetery, and a more general objective of ‘Preserving Our Heritage.’

In 2005 we published a listing of all burials in the cemetery.  Currently the list (including burials through 2017, arranged both alphabetically and by section and lot, and with section/lot maps) is available online on the Buchanan District Library’s web site (buchananlibrary.org) under Local History Room.

Our local history newsletter, which was published from 2006-2016, is available (with an index) on the Buchanan Preservation Society’s website:  preservebuchanan.org.

We have added informational plaques at several locations in the cemetery (Potter’s Field, The ‘Old Burying Ground’ Memorial Area, and on the north side of the Civil War cannon). Our largest project was the erection of the Front Street Entrance Sign (columns and arch).

Oak Ridge Cemetery is owned by the City of Buchanan, Michigan, and located on the west side of town, between Terre Coupe and Front Streets. The cemetery was established in 1864.
