City Commission

A welcome message from our Mayor, Sean Denison: Honoring our past and shaping our future.

The City operates under the Commission – Manager form of government as prescribed by Charter. Under this model the City Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the City with the Buchanan City Commission’s main function being legislative and setting important policies that chart the future course of Buchanan. The City Commission is made up of five (5) members who serve four (4) year terms. The Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem are selected at the first meeting in November following the City election.

Commission Meetings are held on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. unless it is a holiday and then the meeting is the next business day. Residents are welcomed and encouraged to attend. The Agenda is posted in the cabinet by the entrance to City Hall the Friday before a Monday Meeting.

Sean Denison

Current term ends: 2022

Originally from Pennsylvania, I moved to the Midwest in 1995 after graduating from college with a degree in Political Science.  I currently reside in Buchanan with my wife Stacey, who is the Principal at Ottawa Elementary and my daughter Sydney who attends Buchanan Middle School.

I am the Director of Regional Services at North American Signs in South Bend, where I am responsible for the daily operations throughout the Michiana area.  In addition, I am the owner of Timberline Rack; a company I founded in 2007 that designs and supplies lumber storage equipment to retail lumberyards.

Family, friendship and community; I believe these are the cornerstone of my family living in Buchanan.

My family and I moved to Buchanan in 1989 from Niles. My mother (Carolee Weedon) had been teaching at Buchanan Middle School for nineteen years. In 1990 she married Zell Stockwell (who also taught for 30 years at BMS); they were happily married for 27 years until his passing in 2017.

I joined the US Navy in 1997 and served honorably until 2009. The Navy took me all over the world and taught me the leadership necessary to provide for my family, the necessity of friendship when the family was not available to lean on and the importance of community through Naval functions.

I lead with the previous stories to tell my current story. My wife Megan and I, along with three of our children purchased my childhood home on Sylvan St in 2017. When I met my wife in 2007, I knew in my heart we would return home to Buchanan, to the town we so dearly love and admire. My responsibility during this campaign and during my commission seat will be to foster the same feeling from each one of the 4500 people we serve as the commissioners of our town to bring these feelings back.

Cameron Downey

Current term ends: 2022

Mr. Cameron Downey was born and raised in Buchanan.  After his graduation from Buchanan High School he entered the working world as a mold making apprentice and has been involved in the mold making and tool and die trade locally for many years.  He has been fortunate to be in a position that allowed him to do what he loves, which is training the youth around the country in tool and die, and mold making. Mr. Downey has also taken great pride in helping Buchanan’s young people perfect their skills in the high school and middle school wrestling program, as well as the girls’ softball program.

Mr. Downey has lived in the area most of his life and currently calls Buchanan his home.  His downtown building that sits on the corner of Main and Front, presently houses the Union Coffee Shop, Bucktown Nutrition, and Michiana Rental Properties.

Service to the Community, State and Nation

As a lifelong resident of Buchanan, graduating from BHS in 1966, I have served the community in many capacities, from a 27-year member of the Buchanan City Fire Dept. - attaining the rank of Captain - to being a business owner (Chain Reaction Cyclery).

I have had the privilege of working on many different activities and committees within the City, including the Miss Buchanan Committee, Labor Day Committee and, more recently, the Veterans Banner Committee that played a large part the City of Buchanan being selected as The Nicest City in America.

Service to the citizens of Buchanan has and will continue to be my main objective.
